Introduction
Before this portfolio website became known as Andrew Artwork, there existed another incarnation under the same name. The reason for the change is that it originally would have focused on more of my comics and illustrations, and thus the design was focused more on showcasing this. Although it was never fully developed, some of it had been designed. These designs are not final, as some of the elements they contain are placeholders meant more for determining their placements on their respective screens. Regardless, this design holds a special place in my heart!
Design Objective
Design a portfolio website dedicated to showcasing my various artworks, specifically my comics and illustrations, that has an overall aesthetic reminiscent of comics.
Concept Art
When I first started thinking about the website, I wanted it to give off the vibe of both a cartoon and a comic, and I thought about how I could implement some of those aesthetics. I storyboarded some animations as well as utilized comic elements such as word balloons for containers and the occasional halftone pattern. I also wanted the navigation for my various artworks to resemble comic panels.
The Next Step
After some rough concept art, I started working on designing the first screen, the Home screen. As stated above, the design includes placeholder elements such as the buttons for Newer Blogs and Older Blogs as well as the font itself, so please don't be too harsh!
An Alternate Take
Here is another take on the Home screen. This time, I tried designing a version where my latest artworks would be shown in a slideshow, and the blog part of the Home screen was moved to its own Blog screen (minus the latest blog post), which was not yet included in any of the navigations. Despite its unfinished state, I wanted to showcase what I had done as it is a design that I still hold dearly to my heart to this day. I hope to one day go back and improve upon this design and make it a reality!
